How Rugby has shaped Invictus HR

This month sees the Rugby World Cup taking place, which is entirely in France for the first time. I love rugby and it has always played a large part in my life. Although I was born in England, I moved to South Africa when I was a child and lived there for 30 years. When it comes to rugby teams, my loyalties are split between the Springboks and England – I support them both equally until they play each other and then I really am in a quandry!

My eldest son plays for Burbage RFC, a great bunch of players who truly look after each other on and off the pitch. I have sponsored Burbage RFC since 2015 when I started my business, initially under the umbrella of the franchise Sagegreen HR and Advo, and my own brand, Invictus HR, which can be seen in the photo collage.

My business name – Invictus HR – was partially inspired by the Rugby World Cup in 1995 when Nelson Mandela wore the South African Rugby Captain Francois Pienaar’s green and gold shirt after they won the final. Retaining the Springbok emblem was Mandela’s symbolic way of binding the nation. This was later put into a film called Invictus.  If you watch the film, you will understand why this was so significant.
